In order to aware of the performance of sails, this tester determines the force generated by the wind. Specific results in kilogram-force are obtained for every sail, which allows us to calculate the dimensions of a land sailer, and improve its performance.

In the same way as a dyno associate RPM and HP for gasoline engines, thanks to the properties of steel and after several hours of engineering, was possible to design this project, which relates different wind speeds to the forces generated in sailing. So if you're looking for a starting point for designing a land yacht or a sailboat, this is undoubtedly the first step to consider.

This sail tester works by the Hooke's law of elasticity, which is an approximation that states that the deformation of a beam is in direct proportion with the load added to it as long as this load does not exceed the elastic limit.  Hooke's law in simple terms says that strain is directly proportional to stress.
